Great news! - The Hastings Downtown Business Association and the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau are planning for the return of the historic Hastings Car Shows this summer.

Parks and Recreation

Dive in! - The Hastings Family Aquatics Center will open this year and swimming lessons will resume! Online Swimming Lesson Registration is now underway. Register online at https://bit.ly/3mec2pr. The pool will open for the 2021 season on Sunday, June 6, 12-5 p.m. for a Family/Floatie Swim!


Swimming lessons at the Hastings YMCA are filling up fast! The Y offers a nationally recognized swimming curriculum for kids and adults alike to help participants to be comfortable and safe, both in and around water! Referees needed! - The City of Hastings Parks & Recreation Department is looking for adult softball umpires for the adult leagues. Prior experience playing or umpiring softball/baseball is preferred. Games are played Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights starting at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Park. Leagues run May – July. Referees can work nights that fit into their schedule. Pay is $26/game. If interested, please email: pvargas@hastingsmn.gov.


The City of Hastings is still accepting applications for full-time Parks and Recreation Seasonal Workers. This is a great opportunity to work outdoors in our beautiful parks this spring and summer. Apply at www.hastingsmn.gov/employment

Environment


Quaint & Quirky - located downtown at 216 2nd St. E., is hosting a succulent plant event on Saturday, April 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Did you know succulents are known to purify the air and add oxygen to the environment? Take advantage of those benefits and continue your spring cleaning with planting a succulent with Quaint and Quirky! Pick your plant and pot (or bring your own!) and we will provide the soil and top dressing. Plants are priced $5-10 and pots are $6-25. Have a favorite pot? Bring it along and the cost will be $10 for the succulent and soil.
 
Join the inaugural Eagle Watch Bike Tour, a family-friendly bike event on the Point Douglas Trail! The Point Douglas Trail is a unique biking trail along the Mississippi River that connects Hastings, MN and Prescott, WI. Enjoy biking this 3.5-mile trail, spotting eagles and exploring two historic downtowns on Saturday, May 8!


This event is hosted by The Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce & The Prescott Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Carpenter Nature Center, The City of Hastings and Great River Road Visitors and Learning Center at Freedom Park.

Do grocery stores really recycle plastic bags? Yes! Grocery stores that place collection bins for plastic bags do recycle them. Plastic bags and other plastic films are then sent to recycling companies to be turned into outdoor decking, railing, park benches, and picnic tables. -- post courtesy Dakota County
